Vital/Vitality features a body of paintings which are naturalistic portraits which explore the subjects obsession to the point of extremes in athletics, the concept of sculpting the body as a tool for success, and questioning the idea of what success means to these individuals. There is something very physical and primal about athletic competitions, yet when you consider the difference between body of animals and that of a human athlete, one is sculpted through use, survival and necessity; the other is sculpted through use, dedication and determination not to survive, but to win.
